Working under managing accountants, assistant accountant is an entry-level position that involved a lot of general and administrative tasks, as well as providing support for other accountants. Assistant accountants are expected to help with and have a basic understanding of:
Budgeting processes and planning
Preparing tax returns
Processing of expenses
Because they’re entry-level roles, assistant accountant jobs don’t require the same set of skills that are expected of regular or more specific accounting roles. However, they should still have a natural flair for numbers and mathematics, a desire to work hard and learn, as well as be able to take instruction and respond well to professional criticism.
At the very least, an assistant accountant should have completed a secondary education with a focus in mathematics. They should also have gained a qualification in Business or Accounting, or be undertaking study in these fields.
